daybook

October 6th

outside my window...the sunset...of possibly the final warm day this year. Tomorrow should be 15 degrees cooler and raining.
I'm listening to...mosquitoes buzzing around my face. We have been experiencing a phenomenon that we in California call "Indian Summer" but here in CZ it is called "Babí Léto", a warm streak before Autumn really sets in (forecasted for tomorrow). This warm streak has given the mosquitoes a last hurrah and it has left my face pockmarked by mosquito bites making me look like a hormonal teenager.
I'm wearing...Hello Kitty pyjamas as I am uncharacteristically typing this at night before bed.

I am reading..."The Illustrated Man" by Ray Bradbury. He is one of my favourtie authors of all time. This dog-eared copy still has stories in it that bring tears to my eyes. This science fiction author writes in such a way as to exhume latent emotions by the turning of words. Tears spilled today over "The Other Foot".

I am also currently reading "The Essential Talmud" by Adin Steinsaltz.

from the kitchen...something with as little effort required as possible. Greek yogurt, mandarin oranges and a sprinkling of brown sugar.

I am creating....a Kindergarten Solar System.I am the sun and my students are the orbiting planets. They have painted huge replicas of the planets and I have made them into paper costumes for them to wear as they say the planet facts and sing the planet song tomorrow for their parents at our Space Week Assembly.

I am hoping...for a healthy family. Roxie is on her 4th day home from school. I am on my 4th week of feeling sick. Antibiotics scored at the local health clinic for us both today. Road to Recovery here we come!

I am praying...for my co-worker who is in hospital, that she would have a speedy recovery, and for an extra dose of patience as I will absorb her little ones into my class for a week or two.

I am pondering...the fact that I don't measure up to my calling, yet He called me anyway.  I don't have what it takes, yet He took me. I don't feel useful, yet He uses me.
around the house...

An October tradition around our house Is to watch "Something Wicked This Way Comes" on the 1st. This is my favourite scene from the movie. Jonathan Pryce does an amazing job here as Mr. Dark. The book is fantastic, thank you Ray Bradbury. Roxie is reading it now and really enjoying it.
one of my favourite things...my ipad.
a few plans for the rest of the week...ingest antibiotics, drink tea, work tomorrow, clean the house, feel well enough to make an excursion to the mall over the weekend
a picture thought:

Steve Jobs

Thanks for everything, man.

  1. One of the best authors; no question. Isaac Asimov is another.
Hope you and Roxie are back on your feet pronto.
