daybook

Outside my window...fog. Not a speck of sunshine. Dark days are ahead of us. Black bare trees like Halloween skeletons protrude through the thick grey tearing at its seams, ripping away the fabric of the air and leaving us choking for a breath for our lungs cannot swallow the water contained within.

From the kitchen...sweet potatoes have finally been invented here! After 4 years of searching they have been found at only one store and practically hidden among other produce. I think we may be the only people buying them. They are known here as "bataty" and I have been OD'ing on them. Baked in their skins and with a bit of orange juice, butter and brown sugar, you got yourself a stew goin'! (forgive the Arrested Development reference)

I am thankful for...daily Bible reading and prayer with my daughters.

I am wearing...a light blue denim skirt, brown, blue and cream striped tights, a white long-sleeved shirt and brown wrap around sweater, brown wooden heels and a ceramic necklace.
I am creating...a evaluation format for parent-teacher conferences which are this week.

In the garden...BIRDS!!!

Roxie and Dan are quintessential birdwatchers. We have a feeder, a birdseed bell and homemade peanutbutter and birdseed stick feeders. On the kitchen counter are two sets of binoculars and on any given day you can find Roxie out in the garden (sometimes clad only in her robe) trying to hand feed the birds. We bought her a guide to European birds for Christmas. And this year we are getting a real Christmas tree so that after the holidays we can put it outside decorated with homemade bird feeders with which to feed the birds all winter long.
A thought I am pondering...Have I not commanded you; Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged. For the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9

I'm going...to eat dinner at school tonight because we will be there until 6pm with Junior Youth Club. (dinner was good...vegetarian noodles)

I am reading... The Little House on the Prairie series. I read this series every year in the fall and on the first of January I will begin reading it aloud to the girls. I find the stories really help me to put my life in perspective and to appreciate the simple things.

I am hearing...a mobile phone beeping annoyingly due to low batteries. UGH!

Around the house...Christmas presents being tucked away in secret hiding places...shhh, don't tell...

I am hoping...to sleep in tomorrow as it is a National Holiday.

A few plans for the rest of the week: long evenings of parent-teacher conferences, visits with friends tomorrow on our day off, shopping for essentials for school, finding that stupid phone so I can make the incessant beeping go away!!!

A picture thought...

kit-n-kaboodle that followed us around in Hosín
we kinda hoped he would come home with us
isn't kit-n-caboodle a great name?
