a few of my favourite things

sledding

The first sledding of the year. Oh, I do hope there is much more of this to come.

Here's how sledding is done in our neck of the woods:
1. Don bulky ski clothes
2. Grab inflatable doughnuts and plastic discs
3. Tromp down the street and into the forest
4. Take the path in the forest that leads to the castle
5. Wave at the people on the tiny hill with all their small children
6. Walk up the big hill until you see the castle
7. Stop to talk to an elderly gentleman who wants to tell you that he remembers when he skied as a kid through the forest and now there are too many people around and the old days were better
8. Walk up the really steep hill in front of the castle
9. Admire the scenery from atop the hill
10. Talk for a moment together about how great it is that we are the only ones on the hill, again, as it seems to be our secret sledding place...or we are the only ones crazy enough to sled down this steep hill
11. 1,2,3, GOOO!!! Scream!!!
12. Land in a snow pile right in front of a big tree
13. Thank the snow pile for saving your life, or at least your teeth
14. Do it again 20 times until you just can't walk up the hill one more time
15. Head home cold and wet and mildly frostbitten
16. Start a fire and have some tea

  1. I remember doing the same thing when I was growing up. There was a really big hill that others skied down but, at the time, I didn't know how so I sledded instead. Loads of fun!
