life in this republic
I had my original mobile phone for 4 years. It was a pink Nokia and was really stupid. Pieces of it randomly flew off while I would use it as if they were abandoning a sinking ship with the goal of self-preservation. Sometimes it just wouldn't work. It often made me mad. This Christmas Danny totally surprised me with a Samsung Hello Kitty Smart phone. I completely love it. I no longer carry around a diary, calendar etc...It is my dayplanner, my mp3 player and a really great phone. Problem is that, though it is a Smartphone, I am not a Smartperson. While attending a play a week or so back, it was asked of the attendees if we could please turn off our phones during the play. A simple and reasonable request. Go ahead and ask me what the first half of the play was about. I don't know because that was how long it took me to realize that I didn't know how to turn off my phone, nor would I figure it out until the next day when I asked Dan to show me.

I hear ya, my smartphone requires me to hold down the power button and then press a sequence of three buttons just to turn it off. Every time I do it I feel the phone is trying to prevent me from burying it alive or something.
