hallelujah

"We are the Easter people and Hallelujah is our song!"

Pope John Paul II

I put away the Easter tree yesterday. All the decorations are in the attic. One week after the holiday and for many Easter is over. The candy and chocolate bunnies are on sale. The Easter ads are gone, erased from the newspapers. Status quo reigns again in our hearts. We are looking forward to the next holiday. The next reason for living.

For me it can't be over. If he is risen, if the tomb is empty, my life must change. I must live the resurrection daily. It is my bread and butter. It is my breathing in and out.

Rebekah said it well this year. She was describing the build up of Lent, Passover and Easter and then the "The End" of Easter Monday. "The End". Yet the Resurrection marks the beginning, the walking with the Living Christ. He is not a dead prophet whom we mourn, but God, alive and walking with us. If I truly believe this, then I must count myself among the Easter people.

Hallelujah is my song.
