life in this republic

birthday

My daughter turned fourteen on Friday. We took the time to celebrate just as a family. No friends, no teenage drama was requested. This age can be so complicated. She just wanted to be around her family and feel safe and treasured and simple for a couple of days. She made a list of things she wanted to do and we checked them off one by one...

1. go shopping (buy tons of goodies from the Marks and Spencer grocer)

2. open presents in front of a crackling fire in our living
room (got some "Lucky Star" manga and CD's from Marina and the Diamonds and some Korean pop band I don't know)

3. go to the square and peruse the big Christmas Market

4. eat Indian food (great food, not so good on the tummy)

5. go to the gym (not such a good idea right after said Indian food)

6. make cupcakes (made from scratch devil's food with peanut butter frosting YUMMY)

7. watch our new favourite show "Adventure Time"

It was an awesome birthday for my little baby girl who looks more woman than girl...sigh...
