my two dads
I have a dad that gave me life. To him, for that, I will be forever grateful. He gave me his nose (thanks alot) and his hands and feet. His obsession with keeping things neat and with listing out the plans for the day were also handed down. A love for books, being the center of attention ("holding court" one might say), mint and chocolate and coffee ice cream. He can tell a story with such conviction only to reveal the punchline and have everyone laughing, thanks for that, too, Dad. I am tall just like him. I tan without burning thanks to his nice brown skin. I can charm people when I first meet them and that is often a useful quality. Dad, thanks for that one, too.
Happy Father's Day...I love you.
I have another dad who taught me how to live the life that I was given. To him, for that, I will be forever grateful. He gave me his work ethic as I saw him work so hard and learned how to work alongside him. He taught me how to love others and sacrifice his own desires so that they could have what they need...I hope I continue to learn this. A love for coffee and a chat, for asking the hard questions and really listening. He joined me in rolling eyeballs at my mum, a risk he took, but one of solidarity that I needed right at that moment. Thanks, Dad. He came into my life when I needed him most and chose not just my mum but also to be my dad. To this day he is Dad to me and Pop to my kids. Thanks for that one, too. Happy Father's Day...I love you.
What a gift to express these thoughts and feelings to them. Beautiful.
