daybook

november 30

outside my window...
The world is a gingerbread house lavishly iced with the finest white icing and sprinkled with sugar crystals whose every facet catches each moonbeam only to reflect it back like twinkling stars thrown from heaven for our enjoyment.

I am listening to...
the soft and rythmic scraping of snowshovels on the street.

I am wearing...
Jeans (to work! We are normally not allowed, but today is a special day) and a white long-sleeved t-shirt and a black sweater with black boots.

I'm pondering...The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. For those who lived in a land of deep shadows—
light! sunbursts of light!
Isaiah 9:2

I am reading...
Airframe by Michael Chrichton...a dog-eared copy to be sure, but a quick read as tomorrow we begin reading all of our Christmas books.

I am thinking...
That God has much work to do on my selfish prideful heart. I am thinking that I can't possibly be old enough to have a teenage daughter (Rebekah turns 13 in two days). I am thinking that I haven't been eating too healthfully and perhaps I need to have a day or two of only fruits and veggies.

I am creating...
A scavenger hunt for the entire Primary School. Today. Hence the jeans.

towards rhythm and beauty...
Turning on the Christmas lights, lighting a fire, lighting candles. Stopping our hectic schedule for a moment, a mere moment, to sit before the burning candles on the advent wreath, reading scripture, breathing a prayer and singing together, mixing our voices as one family who worships God together.

I am hoping and praying...
For this Advent season, that it is not just ritual, but within lies a desire to experience the living God and be forever changed by His son.

around the house...
Decorations complete save for the tree. This year we are buying a real tree as our 3 year-old pre-lit tree has died and so it will be displayed in my classroom covered by the kids' handmade ornaments. A real tree it is this year, only Czechs decorate their trees on Christmas Eve, so we must wailt for the trees to go on sale. Next week maybe?

from the kitchen...
Cooked pumpkin. We grew a few pumpkins this year and Danny cooked them and made pumpkin cake. The rest of the cooked pumpkin will be put in the freezer. There is nothing like fresh homegrown cooked pumpkin. YUMMY!

one of my favorite things...
Lying next to my girls while we make snow angels in the forest while snow gently falls on my face.

a few plans for the rest of the week...
Today, the schoolwide scavenger hunt (I hope it is successful), tomorrow, cupcake baking, Friday, Rebekah's birthday party at her favourite Indian restaurant wth all of her friends, Saturday, sledding.

picture thoughts:
Kuky came to school to visit the children and became lost on his way. The children must find him by following the clues that he left. But with each clue is a task. Can they accomplish each task quickly enough? Will they understand each clue and follow the trail? Will Kuky be found? Stay tuned...
