a few of my favourite things

the first snowfall

Four years here, our fourth winter and I still get excited when I see the first snowflakes fall. It happened for us yesterday morning. I was having circletime with my kindergarteners and we were just doing the calendar and weatherchart. We looked out the window to check the weather and sure enough it had begun to snow! Pressing our faces to the glass, we stared out for a few minutes in silence. Even the smallest among us knew and appreciated the beauty and majesty of the moment heralding winter's advent. Something stirred within me in anticipation of what this season has in store for us. More accurately, what this season means to us. Playing in the snow, sledding, hot chocolate, cosy fires in the fireplace, time together. Stockings hung, presents wrapped, secrets revealed. A Saviour rediscovered, awaited, adored, worshipped. Thoughts of others, self-sacrifice, the joy of giving. All of this wonder held within the faceted crystals of a single snowflake. Just as His image is reflected in the faces of all whom He has created.
