a few of my favourite things

sushi

Many of my faithful readers will remember reading that date night for us usually consists of a trip to Makro (our version of Costco). I have been complaining about this for awhile now, asking, nay begging, to be taken on a big girl date. Where uncomfortable shoes are worn and your pocketbook is smaller. Dan's oft used excuse is that with my work schedule I don't have time for a proper date and on this point he is dead on. As this is the first week of summer holidays we decided to take advantage of all the free time and go out on a romantic date...by ourselves...not to grocery shop...or go to the gym...

Coincidentally, a miracle has happened in our city of České Budějovice...a sushi restaurant has opened! I can't imagine that it will last long (RIP Subway), but we will patronize this place until it runs itself into the ground. So I got dressed up and Dan looked great and we headed out for sushi. A dream come true to be with my husband and eat sushi. It's like a bit of heaven.

We get to SushiPoint and are met with our first challenge: the door is locked. It says it opens at 5pm and it is 5:06. "We knew it wouldn't last ", we lament, "they've already shut down." In vain we try pulling on the door a few more times, peering as we do so, through the glass. Hoping upon hope that there is someone inside who will see that, yes, there are customers eagerly waiting to get in. We stand around by the door examining our options. Wait a bit longer, go to another restaurant, cry. 5:10...I pull again on the door. Nothing. 5:12...a man walks past us, looks at us strangely (possibly because I think what we are doing is now considered loitering) and pushes on the SushiPoint door...and it opens. Like magic. It was open that whole time....
5:14...I think we've waited long enough to put some distance between us and our "we don't know how doors work" embarrassment  and we enter the dream world of sushi.

It was very romantic, very yummy and very worth it.

  1. Unless they serve chicken (fried, of course) and offer knives and forks, I would have considered the doors locked and run the other way.

  2. hahaha! thanks for that giggle!
I'm not sure about those DayGlo colors in your photo, but otherwise, I totally agree--love sushi! But Jim does not, so we do not date at sushi places. That's a "date" with Chrissy instead.
