For the past 8 or so weeks, every Sunday and Monday night, we have faithfully watched Česko-Slovenská Superstar (our version of American Idol). We totally got into the stories of the contestants and we rooted for our favourites. It was also a great Czech lesson as it ended up being almost 5 hours per week completely in Czech and Slovak. Last week was the Super Finale and one of our favourites won. That was awesome. We had so enjoyed, in the midst of a really busy season for us, a time to unwind and do something together as a family. Last night was the first Superstar free Sunday in a long time. So I decided it should be game night. First we went to the castle as a family, the girls riding their bikes through the forest and Dan and I on foot (we only have 3 bikes). Stopping at the castle for ice cream we then sat down on a bench facing the castle to enjoy the view, the ice cream and the fragrance of the flowers that are blooming in the castle garden.
After we got home, we ate dinner and then settled in for a lovely evening playing Taboo. This was the first time we had played Taboo as a family. If you are familiar with the game then you know that each player must choose a card with a secret word on it and give clues to his partner in order that the partner may guess the word being described. The catch is that there are certain words that are "taboo" to use when describing the secret word.
We paired up in the first round parents against kids. The second round saw Dan and Roxie pitted against Krista and Bekah. It was pretty funny. The highest level of entertainment was, as usual, achieved by Roxie. The way her brain works and the things she says completely blow us away and make us roar with laughter. Picture this: The clue was "cow". Among the forbidden words was milk, farm etc.. Rebekah cleverly approached it from this angle, "This animal is black and white and you get from it your favourite beverage (milk) which you can't often drink (lactose-intolerance)". Brilliant. I thought that Roxie would get it instantly. But she quickly blurted out "Zebra!". Zebra? Seriously? What favourite beverage comes from zebras? We totally cracked up! The rest of the evening, if a difficult clue was given "zebra" became the default answer.
