a few of my favourite things

I have always loved lime-flavoured things. When I was very little my mum would take me to the bank with her and they would always give me a green lime-flavoured lollipop. I think this was when my love for all things lime began. Here are some fun factoids:

limes are my absolute favourite colour

lime anything is my favourite scent, lotion, perfume, soap...right now I am using a lime/bergamot body butter

Obviously my fave flavour of candy, popsicle etc... is lime

Does anyone else remember when the green Jolly Ranchers were lime? What happened to cause all green candies to suddenly switch from lime to apple-flavoured? This absolutely bugs me. I was so totally not in the loop when this monumental decision was made.

Here in the Czech Republic there is a love affair with limes, real limes. Every grocery store is chock full of them. A week or so ago we tried our hand at making limeade. Rebekah is now a pro at it and we are loving having freshly squeezed limeade on hot summer evenings.

LIMEADE

7 limes

1 cup sugar

1 liter of cold water

squeeze 6 limes' worth of juice

cut one lime into slices

add juice, sugar, lime slices and water

stir and refrigerate

impress your friends

for added flair garnish with mint leaves

On the way home on Wednesday, after a trip to the pool and mini golfing (a new mini-golf opened up at our neighbourhood park...it is so very cool...a perk of living in a tourist town) we happened upon a new soft-serve ice cream stand. We were hot and hungry and pulled over to get a cone for each of us. The flavours were vanilla, lime or mixed. LIME. OMG LIME!!! I got a mixed cone and spent the next 10 minutes in a sort of magical place filled with unicorns and bambi and spring flowers or something like that. That vanilla-lime mix was like heaven's version of key lime pie only in ice cream form. The vanilla was creamy and the lime was like a creamy but icy sorbet and it was phenomenal. I am reliving it right now...give me a moment.
